Antique Pair English Hunting Prints 1800s Punch Magazine

$149.00

  • Details
The British painter George Denholm Armour (1864-1949) was born in Lanarkshire, Scotland. During his career he made hundreds of illustrations for Punch (1841-2002), the British humor and satire magazine, most of them about horses and riding. Both of these prints bear his signature in the plate.

This pair of prints are from the pages of Punch from the 1870's and both depict fox hunting scenes. The captions display the droll British humor of the era. Each print measures 5 inches by 7 inches and is under glass. The single-cut green mats have a double gilt stripe and the 1/2 inch wide wood frames are a dark cherry color. There are three brass strips on the back of each to secure the prints and a brass triangle hanger.

The framed measurements of each artwork are 10 1/4 by 12 1/2 inches and each weighs 1 1/4 pounds. Both are in excellent condition, the corners of the frames tight and the prints with no tears or stains. These elegant British prints are highly decorative and collectible.
