This beautiful, large decorative plate is from the famous firm of Villeroy & Boch in Germany. It is one of their series called "Christmas in Europe;" this plate is titled "Scandinavia" and has a scene in the center featuring five of Santa's elves loading his sleigh in front of a mountain log cabin, presumably Santa's.
The wide lip on the plate is decorated with toys and gifts from days gone by, set amongst green fir boughs on a medium blue background. Our personal favorite is the 'boy with pig' mechanical bank. The plate measures 11 inches in diameter, stands 1 inch high and weighs 1 1/2 pounds. Fully marked on the underside, stamped in black, the plate is in like new condition. It was lovingly carried back from Germany in the arms of a family member, having been purchased there on holiday in 1997. A great plate to decorate with at Christmas...and to serve your favorite cookies on.

I found the "Christmas in Europe" plates online after Christmas and, even though I have lots of Christmas decorations, I had to have them if they could be found for sale. This was one good source that was reasonable and the order was promptly sent, wrapped securely, and arrived in perfect shape. Thank you!
