Vintage Chain Saw Carvings by DENNIS SULLIVAN Large Wooden Folk Art Goat and Sheep 1996

Dennis Sullivan carved this pair of large painted pine animals with his chainsaw in 1996. Dennis, a self-taught artist, and his wife Frances Conklin began their business in Grangeville, Idaho and, after their carvings sold on QVC in 1995, built Dog Bark Park in Cottonwood, Idaho in 1997. The complex consists of a 30 foot high beagle named "Sweet Willy;" until 2023, the couple operated a B&B inside the building. Their chainsaw art studio and gift shop are still in operation, creating folk art style wooden carvings like these.

The brown bighorn sheep, with its massive curled horns, measures about 8 1/2 inches tall, 8 inches long and weighs 12 ounces. The white mountain goat, with its curved black horns, is 6 1/2 inches long, stands 5 3/4 inches tall to the tips of its horns and also weighs 12 ounces. Both of these majestic animals are native to Idaho.

On the underside of each of them is attached a heart-shaped brass tag (shown) that reads "DENNIS SULLIVAN 1996 GRANGEVILLE, IDAHO 83530." Both of these folk art carvings are in excellent condition and are great additions to a collection of carvings...or the beginnings of one.
