This gorgeous wood vase was created by Spinning Aspen Studios, located at the time in Pueblo West, Colorado. Owner Bruce Elkins founded the studio in 1977, hand crafting unique pieces from local aspen wood. The fascinating natural grain of the wood is enhanced by the live edges with bark and knotholes and the inlaid band of crushed turquoise at the base of the neck.
The vessel stands 6 1/2 inches tall, measures about 6 inches wide across the shoulder and has a 2 inch wide mouth. The 2 3/4 inch diameter base bears the label company's paper label and handwritten letters, possibly those of the artisan. The piece weighs 1 3/4 pounds and is in excellent condition with no damage. It's a beautiful, highly decorative accessory for Western, Southwestern or modern interiors.
