A well-carved and nicely painted decoy, this mallard drake is in excellent condition. Made from a solid piece of white pine, the duck has many lifelike details: the yellow beak with its nail (black tip on the end) and the nares (nostrils); deep green head with a white neck ring; the speculum (the blue patch on the feathers); and excellent painting on the tail that mimics its unique curly black tail feather known as a "drake feather."
The decoy measures 15 inches long, 5 inches across the breast and 7 inches tall to the top of its head. It weighs 1 1/2 pounds and is signed by the carver: Jean Godfrey 81. Great display decoy and a nice gift for the collector, decorator...or yourself.
