A very nice hand carved blue wing teal decoy, this hen is stained a translucent brown on the head, body and bottom and has painted feathers. The black-painted beak has a well-shaped nail on the tip and carved nares (nostrils). Its amber glass eyes have black pupils and are inset into the head, which is turned to its right. An unknown, talented carver created her, probably in the 1980's.
The decoy is 13 inches long, about 4 inches across the breast measured on the bottom and 5 1/4 inches tall. It weighs 1 pound and is in very good condition, with no paint loss and only tiny nicks in the wood the only wear. It's been well cared for and displays handsomely.
