Carved Bobwhite Quail by Bill Faix

$175.00

This handsome bobwhite quail was hand carved and painted by well-known carver William (Bill) Faix of North East, Maryland at the head of the Chesapeake Bay, right up 40 from Havre de Grace. When he carved this quail, Bill was already winning ribbons in competitions like the 1978 World Championship Wildfowl Carving Contest for both his gamebirds and shorebirds.

Perched on a chuck of driftwood, the male is supported by his painted wire legs and claws. His chunky solid wood body is fully matte painted with intricate feather patterns in brown, tan, salmon and white. His alert head has two tiny brown glass eyes and a nicely sculpted beak. The bottom of the driftwood has the artist's burnt-in stamp 'BILL FAIX NORTH EAST MD.' In addition, he hand signed it 'Wm Faix 1995' and "BOB WHITE" "QUAIL"

The overall height of the quail is 8 inches, with the length of the base about 7 1/2 inches. It weighs 14 ounces and is in exceptional condition, with no discernible wear. This quail is an excellent example of Bill Faix's talent.
