This mallard drake decoy was hand carved and hand painted by Dorothy Lord of Wildlife Creations in Spring Lake, New Jersey. Made from a solid piece of white pine, the duck has many lifelike details: the yellow beak with its nail (black tip on the end) and nares (nostrils); deep green head with a white neck ring, the head with inset glass eyes turned the duck's left side; the speculum (the blue patch on the feathers); and the original, overall excellent painting that brings to life this colorful bird.
The decoy measures 14 1/2 inches long from tip of the beak to tail; 6 1/2 inches across the breast and 7 inches tall to the top of its head. It weighs 2 pounds, 2 ounces and it bears a stamp on the bottom: 'Wildlife Creations Spring Lake, N.J.' It's also personally hand signed in script by the carver: 'by Dorothy Lord.' She also wrote on the bottom: Male Mallard. This decoy in excellent condition is a handsome display decoy and a nice gift for the collector, decorator...or yourself.
