Vintage ISRAELI ART POTTERY Sculpture Signed Shlomo-Dube Modern Figural Art

$72.00

  • Details
This charming sculpture was hand made of red stoneware clay by Shlomo-Dube, an Israeli based art potter, probably in the 1970's. It's a figure of a young girl wearing her fringed tallit (prayer shawl) over her head, holding both her hands up to her mouth. Her curly hair is tumbling onto her forehead and her eyes are wide with amazement (or fright). "Shlomo-Dube" is stamped into the clay at the bottom edge of the back.

The clay is grainy and bubbled (one bubble has popped), with the decorative details incised and stamped. The piece is hollow, but thick-walled, and heavy for its size at a little over a pound. Measuring 7 3/4 inches tall, it has an oval base 2 inches by 2 1/2 inches. The glaze is a clear matte one, allowing the dark reddish-brown color of the clay to dominate. It's in excellent condition, with no cracks, chips or fleabites. Modern and yet almost primitive in its simplicity, it's a wonderful sculpture by a talented Israeli artist.
